Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T) is seeking a Materials and Processes Engineer (Level 2) to join our team in New Orleans, Louisiana. The schedule for this position is Fri, Sat, Sun, 6am-6:30pm.

Position Responsibilities:

  • The ability to generate specifications, test plans and other documents to manage the deployment of materials, parts and processes
  • Maintain compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations and promotes standardization across business activities
  • Evaluates emerging technologies for potential application to business needs
  • Develops and qualifies new materials, parts and processes to meet requirements
  • Integrates new technologies as appropriate
  • Assists test and audit programs of manufacturing and engineering processes to applicable requirements
  • Conducts analysis to determine reasons for failures of materials, parts and processes
  • Implements corrective and preventative actions responding to non-conformance conditions and RCCAs
  • Designs, develops and qualifies computer and production systems to satisfy user requirements

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance Post Start is required.

This is a NASA Safety Sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

This position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 1+ years of experience in materials and processes engineering

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • A bachelor's degree or higher in chemistry, chemical engineering, or materials science
  • 1+ years of experience working in a lab
  • Experience with Thermal Protection (TP) and Thermal Protection Systems (TPS) (inclusive of spray on and pour applications in addition to substrate clean, water break free (WBF), prime, verification testing, TPS application and verification testing)
  • Experience with contamination control engineering (contamination control and the application in Manned Space Flight Vehicles)
  • Experience with aerospace materials engineering (i.e. materials used in space flight vehicles such as bonding adhesives, films, tapes, coatings, primers, etc used in nominal, flight and cryogenic environments)
  • Experience with metallurgy techniques associated with 2000 series aluminum alloys, Inconel, and titanium

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
