Job Title: Sr. Test Flight Mechanic

Position Responsibilities:

Job duties include but are not limited to:

• Support test and trials conduct activities responding to Test Conductor/Craft Operator direction
• Support test troubleshooting activities
• Support test maintenance activities
• Working with plans, instructions and technical data
• Perform craft and system repairs, inspections and fuel system installations
• Perform crane rigging for lifting deck cargo, engines, exhaust systems, Foreign Object Damage (FOD) screens and propeller blades
• Perform inspections, troubleshooting, repairs, overhauls, rework, modification, maintenance and preservation of craft, craft systems and component parts and equipment in the performance of functional assignments
• Use jigs, fixtures, tracking and balancing equipment, hoists, dollies, cranes and special tools and test equipment necessary in the performance of assigned duties
• Complete and maintain records and reports as required
• Operate forklifts, aerial lifts, scissor lifts, machines, mechanical equipment hydraulic test stands and hydro tester, PONS unit to fill Rolls Royce engines with oil
• Preflight the craft before sea trial (underway)
• Become knowledgeable in craft on-ramp and underway operations
• Fulfill deck hand duties on craft while underway, as required
• Conduct a post mission inspection on the craft after the overwater run
• Perform Ramp Marshall duties on the craft over the water, land and blocks on ramp
• Complete mock up tubing, cut to fit and swage in place using the Permaswage unit and Gama swage unit
• During Trials, perform open inspection of all compartments, fuel tanks, oily waste tanks, gearboxes, turbine engines, propellers, lift fans, and bag skirts
• Maintain cleanliness on the craft
• Adjust, repair or replace malfunctioning components or assemblies using hand tools and/or special tooling
• Use approved methods and procedures in the performance of the job
• Support off-site travel for hovercraft
• Perform other related duties as assigned by management

Education:

High school diploma or GED certificate


Requirements:

• Formal craft training and five (5) plus years hovercraft maintenance experience on US Navy hovercrafts
• Ability to install Mod kits on new craft (to include air conditioners, hatches, doors, hoisting system, etc.)
• Ability to perform maintenance on engine as needed, to include removal and replacement of engine and major components
• Ability to perform metal repairs and to fabricate metal and composite parts as required
• Ability to troubleshoot and solve routine problems as needed
• Ability to work under limited supervision
• Ability to read and understand installation instructions, maintenance manuals and blueprints
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Ability to measure, drill and modify craft structures without causing damage to structure or underlying components
• Must work as a team member to ensure quality and timely completions of craft to meet schedule
• Must purchase or own tools required for the jobs assigned
• Must be able to work in the elements (i.e. heat, cold, rain and snow)
• Willingness and flexibility to work extended hours as needed to complete test procedures with little or no prior notification
